teething is the devil

I don't even really have anything more to say than that.

teething is the devil.

it really is.

what a cruel, harsh way to spend your day.  having some sharp object ripping through your tender gums.

Isla cried for five minutes... per tooth.
Alice.... well... I would cry all day too... if it were me.

That was our day.

Damn you baby teeth... damn you.

where's your favourite place to camp?

A couple of you asked if we were camping when we took the pictures from my last post ... well we weren't... but we will be soon.  I can't wait.  Last summer I was too huge to camp and I was really missing it.   I did of course have some visions of us camping soon after the girls were born but then they were born and they looked oh so fragile and so I threw that idea out the window.  We are still figuring out how it will all go down... what gear we will bring... what they will sleep in and on... where they will nap... or if they will nap... but it is happening and hopefully soon.

So now I am wondering... where shall we go?  We do have a few ideas but you guys are great at giving me ideas so let me have it... where have you camped?  where did you love?  where did you hate? and where would you love to camp?

I don't care if you don't live near me... I want to know.

Alice: i've gotta say... i'm a little peeved they only gave me this pink stuff now...

FPIES... a post about puke

About a month ago we had a friday night that went like this...

we were out of our usual organic brown rice cereal... I gave them organic oatmeal instead (that they'd had before... I swear they had it before).  They gobbled that stuff down like they were born to eat it... all seemed well... that is until about two hours passed and we heard Isla cry through the monitor... Andrew called for backup... she'd thrown up all over... everywhere.  So we thought she must have a bug... but then fifteen minutes later Alice woke up and threw up everywhere.  The throwing up continued until there was nothing left to do but gag.  I was on the phone with  tele-health for quite a while... thank god for phone-a-ble reassurance.  Since Alice threw up too we ruled out a virus and blamed the situation on food.  We thought there was no way it was the oatmeal so it must have been the organic chicken + vegetables that we opened that night.

fast forward...

to yesterday.

I take the girls to the grocery store and they act like we are at Disney world.  They kick and smile and are generally just hilarious to watch as I push them through the store.  We are there to buy more rice cereal.  They are out.  So what do I do... I buy two options... the first Heinz brown rice cereal (which to my horror, is actually YELLOW when you make it...) the second being organic mixed grain cereal (this was the winner... this is what we fed them last night).  They loved it.  Two hours later the puking began.  I have to tell you... it truly is horrible watching your babies puke... so helpless... so sad.  It ended in gags.

So today... I turned to good old dr. google.  and google tells me that they have FPIES.  (Severe food allergy that causes a delayed (2 hour +) vomiting reaction.  check.  It makes complete sense.

So I will never feed them oatmeal again... and by never I mean I will not feed them oatmeal until they are at least three (the age at which dr. google says you might be able to reintroduce the culprit food again reaction free).

Did I mention that I eat oatmeal every single day for breakfast?

so that's what new with me.  have you heard of FPIES?

chaotic recap... fourteenth edition

This week was fabulous.  We spent a ton of time just the three of us and some nice time with some friends and an auntie.  I feel like I won the mommy jackpot this week because the girls were just so happy and they slept so so well and I don't have to do the dreaded pumping anymore, and I just had so much me time... it was amazing.

onto the goods...

what we did this week... (the baby goods... why you're probably reading this post)

what I read this week...

Divergent... I loved it.

what I did for me this week...

Besides reading... I instigated a twenty day yoga challenge... the participants.... me (obviously) and Andrew.  Don't ask me how I convinced him to do it but he is game (okay maybe a little reluctantly)... I mean the man used to come to yoga class with me way back when we were dating... was he just doing that because I loved it.... now I think maybe..  I signed up to myyogaonline.com (google found me a free trial) and I am pretty pumped about it.  I have a few yoga videos here but I like variety and this site seems to have it.  We did our first video last night by Eoin Fin.  I'll keep you posted on how this goes.

and

I've been listening to this...

This weekend we are taking the girls up to a cottage for the day.  It's going to be 34 out.  I'm excited.

Happy weekend!

better than vampires?

I finished reading Divergent today.  I started it on Sunday.  The girls have been napping like champs this week and I also let myself give up pumping.  So I have had time... something that has been quite scarce for some...time.  So I dug right in, parked my butt on a chair in the glorious sun on our patio, and sailed through this book.  I have to admit, I did not harbor high hopes for this one.  I mean Janet lent it to me... and she certainly did not disappoint with Outlander but still... it was one of those... if you loved Hunger Games than you'll love this book... type of books.  And I did not love Hunger Games the book ... I did love the movie but that's beside the point... I think.  So I was done Outlander and figured I'd give it a go.

so...

good.

perhaps trumping vampires... in my books.... good.  which says a lot in case you do not know me.

Outlander... now that was a hot book (as my Mom likes to put it) but Divergent... damn good chemistry and a whole lot of sexual tension.

read it.  you'll love it.

what have you read lately?

a perfect day

Yesterday was my first mothers day... well... technically I did get cards last year... but this year I really do feel like a mother.

Like this is what I was made to do.

The girls woke up at 5 am... which is lately becoming normal.  I fed them.  Then Andrew took them... and I slept in.  (and of course had nightmares (not about Daddy taking care of the girls of course) but that's another day... another post).

Andrew made brunch.  Stephanie (little sis) baked raspberry muffins and Steve (Andrew's little bro) made fruit salad.  There were flowers, cards, gifts (even a surprise one from my parents who are vacationing as of late) and of course cocktails.

It was sunny.  It was warm.  and I felt the love.

In the afternoon we headed to a local nursery to look for some plants (the smell of a nursery is one of my favourite things).

We came back home and had a bbq for two and then got the girls to bed.

Bedtime cuddles are so so good.

It really was a perfect day.

I hope all of you new Mom's, old Mom's and vet Mom's had a perfect kind of day too.  And to all of you hopeful Mom's I hope that one day soon you will be able to bask in this day too.

chaotic recap... thirteenth edition

Sometimes I wonder if there is too much mommy on here and not enough me... or life... non mommy... but then I think about it... honestly... and realize you can't take the mommy out of me... really... at all.  So I won't take it out or downplay it... because it really does take over... but maybe I will try to pull out those other interests of mine... yes they still exist... they're just in hiding... for now.

so I'm shaking things up...

which you might not even notice...

what we did this week... (the baby goods... why you're probably reading this post)

on Sunday we took a little trek down a nearby trail

Auntie Stephanie came along

it was gorgeous out

we made a little discovery along this walk

the girls... they're a gettin heavy... countdown to our trip to Acadia is on... where we plan on doing some serious hiking with babies in tow... we better get our asses in shape and fast

The Lounge

god this makes me laugh

she does it everywhere

I think she's teaching Isla her lounging ways as well

Heidi is such a great sport

sometimes she plays hard-to-get

like all girls should

but eventually she gives in

and she'll purr no mater what they do

I really think having 9 month old twins is much easier than having one 9 month old...
why is that exactly?

they entertain each other

so I can do things sometimes... things like dishes... and laundry... but I'll take it.

what I read this week...

Janet gifted me Outlander a while back and I now marvel at what was missing in my life pre Outlander.  I am  about 50 pages shy of the end... luckily there are many more in this series.  If  you haven't read this... buy it... I know you're probably knee deep into 50 shades of gray since it seems like that is all that anyone talks about these days (and I plan on picking up this good smut myself one day soon) but when you're done... read Outlander.  Time travel + great love + manly men (my kind of man) ... hours and hours of pure gold.

I read I will not nurse you forever this morning and thought her perspective was wonderful.  I'll admit, the thought of breastfeeding a toddler used to horrify me, but now that I am breastfeeding, my perspective is changing... maybe not all the way there but I am wondering about this whole weaning business.

what I did for me this week...

I went to hot yoga, on a super muggy down-pouring evening and basked in a pool of sweat.

I watched the season finale of Vampire Diaries last night and used the word epic after it was over.  yes I know I am too old to use that word. but it was.

and here are two more pictures of Isla...

1. because I love these pictures &
2. because I struggle with being equal with the girls and up until these pics... there were more Alice pics in this post than Isla
.....

how was your week?  what do you think about weaning... or just not weaning and did you watch that epic finale?

happy friday
